YOUR HANDS, CAST IN STONEONE EVENINGSHIPS FROM THE USGOLD & SILVER FINISH INCLUDED30-DAY GUARANTEE

Why couples say it came out perfect

The detail is the point

The molding gel takes an impression finer than skin: knuckle creases, fingernails, a wedding band, the little scar on his thumb. People who have never held a craft knife get a cast that looks carved.

Six minutes you will remember

You have to hold hands and not move while the gel sets. Every couple laughs, every couple takes a photo of the two of them stuck in a bucket. The cast is the souvenir of that evening as much as of the hands.

The gift with nothing to compare it to

There is no other copy of it anywhere. It beats flowers on a paper anniversary, it is the wedding present the couple actually keeps, and it is what people wish they had made of a parent's hand.

It lives on the mantel for decades

Fully cured gypsum is hard and heavy in the hand, and the gold and silver powders in the box give it a finish that reads as bronze. A shelf, a nightstand, the hallway table: it is the piece guests ask about.

One evening, four steps

A couple's hands in the bucket of molding gel
  • 1. Set the scene (5 min)

Sheet on the table, bucket in the middle, sticks and stone within reach, cool tap water measured out. Decide the pose and practise it once with dry hands: where the elbows rest, which hand is on top.

  • 2. Mix and go in (2 min)

Molding powder into the water, stir hard for 90 seconds until it is smooth and pink, tap the bucket twice on the table to knock the bubbles out, then both hands straight in, in the pose, not touching the sides.

  • 3. Hold hands (6 min)

Sit still and talk. The gel turns from pink to white when it has set. Wiggle each finger a little to break the seal, then draw the hands out slowly, one at a time.

  • 4. Pour and wait (overnight)

Mix the casting stone, pour it slowly into the hollow, tap the bucket to release air, leave it overnight. In the morning, tip it out and peel the gel away like a rind. Sand, fill, finish gold or silver if you like, and let it dry a few days before sealing.

    Follow measurements and times

My husband and I did this for our "bronze" anniversary and it turned out fantastic! We used bottled water to get the measurements just right since each bottle was 500ml, and a 300ml measure cup. This made the water room temp and the correct temp according to the instructions. He poured in the powders while I whisked and it worked out great, the alginate took exactly 8 minutes on both tester and real deal molds to turn blue, the casts took about 3 hours to harden and please put a bag under it when you flip it because water does come out! I used a weeding hook from my vinyl toolkit i use for cricut to remove the extra stuck in the crevices. While the mold did capture everything pretty well my nails didnt mold with their whole length so I just took a nail file and squared them off to make them all match. Overall the kit did exactly what I wanted and I cant wait to bronze it when it is fully dry. I have it sitting on top of my air purifier so its getting constant dry air to avoid molding issues as per Google told me 😆 also the bigger mold once the casting was poured does get warm and stays warm as it cures so once it sat the 3 hours and was no longer warm on the outside it was a breeze to get the mold out and the alginate came off super easily as well. I hope this helps someone because I was super nervous, my husband has hand tremors and it didnt even matter his hand molded gorgeously! 10/10 very good kit! Oh but my engagement ring had alginate in it so bad it took forever to clean out, channel set diamonds on the band and tension set on the engagement. Just keep that in mind you will be picking it out if you choose to keep an intricate ring on like I did 😉 the smaller cast we locked pinky fingers its cute too 😄

    ABSOLUTELY the BEST KIT !

This is the second mold kit I have tried and by far the best! Best because it was so very easy to use.I attempted a more expensive kit that required the temperature of the water to be measured, specific time measurements and then the mold mixture failed to change color from pink to dark pink and went directly to chunks! This kit was so simple and worked perfectly. .Use any coolish water mixes well quickly.I was attempting to make a mold of my 103 yr old mothers hand as a gift to my daughter.Mom is very bright mentally and understood exactly what to do . She held her fingers a little too tightly together to prevent her tremor from moving the mold gel ,however it turned out very well. The only thing for me is it was a little tricky getting all the mold gel out of between the fingers. My advice would be to hold your fingers a little loosley so you can more easily remove all traces of the gel.

    Hand casting to treasure forever

I highly reccomend. Comes with easy instructions and I liked that it came with the bucket. I had to carry the mold back with me from funeral home of mine and my moms hand casting. It was protected while transporting it. I wouldnt say the paint was the best, but everything else was perfect! It took acrylic paint very well. They detail is amazing. A memory that will last forever. Easy to use.

Read the directions, and it should turn out great, This was a wonderful purchase. I'm getting ready to go to prison in and this is something my wife can keep. It turned out great!!! There was some minor bubbling on some of the fingers , but was some careful sand papering should be fine.

The five ways a cast goes wrong, and how this kit stops each one

Close-up of a finished hand cast
  • "It set before our hands were in"

Warm water makes alginate set in seconds; the number one failure on Amazon. The Timing Card says cool tap water (65-70°F) and everything measured before you mix. Follow it and you have a comfortable minute to get into position.

  • "Not enough gel / our hands touched the side"

The bucket is sized for two adult hands clasped and the box holds two pouches of molding powder (400 g) plus 1000 g of casting stone. Mix both pouches, keep the hands centred, low and off the bottom, and let the gel cover the hands rather than the forearms; the dry run in step 1 is what makes that automatic.

  • "A finger broke off"

Fresh gypsum is soft. Leave it overnight, never pull the gel off in one go, and keep a spoonful of dry stone back to fill a chip. The Finishing Guide has the 30-second repair, and a chip fixed while the cast is damp is invisible.

  • "Bubbles and bumps"

Air trapped in the gel becomes little beads on the cast. Tap the bucket, do not whip the mix, and sand the beads off while the cast is still damp, which is when the stone comes away like chalk.

  • "It was messy"

Alginate wipes off skin and rinses off the table; the stone is the only thing to keep out of the sink. Work on the sheet in the box, pour the leftover stone into the bin, not the drain, and clean-up is five minutes.

The occasions people make it for

Anniversaries

Paper, cotton, bronze, copper: every early anniversary has a material, and a cast finished in the gold powder passes for all of them. Fiftieth-anniversary parents get the one their kids commission.

Weddings and engagements

The wedding-day cast, made the morning after with the rings on. As a gift for the couple it is the one present that is not on the registry and is still on the mantel ten years later.

Valentine's and date nights

A date at the kitchen table that ends with something to keep. Long-distance couples make it the first weekend they are finally in the same room.

A parent's or grandparent's hand

The one people say they wish they had done sooner. Your hand in your mother's, a grandfather's with a grandchild's. The kit is gentle enough for very old and very small hands.
